Young Mr. Lincoln

Robert's wife Ingela Sheer writes: My stovepipe hat-attired husband
and I visited President Abraham Lincoln the night after his
birthday (hence, the wreaths). During this 90-second exposure,
Robert stood perfectly still in front of the statue for one minute.
He then exited the frame for the last 30-seconds allowing the
the light from the bottom of the statue to shine through
his now-empty silhouette on the negative.
As always, there's no Photoshop and no multiple exposures in my
husband's work; it's just performance-art and nighttime photography. He uses
4x5 film and an old-fashioned view camera that even Lincoln would recognize.

Robert writes: As I exit the shot, my body doesn't blur on the negative  because
I'm wearing black and I keep moving.  Black is the absence of light and the
negative only records light so I can move out of the shot invisibly like a
magician performing to the camera.
